Albizia tanganyicensis - Papierbas, Paperbark False-Thorn trees

The Paperbark false thorn tree is a large deciduous tree that grows up to 15 metres tall. Flowers from August to November and fruits from September to December. Found in two areas of South Africa, in the Waterberg and the north east of the Limpopo Province. A protected tree in South Africa.

The Paperbark false-thorn tree grows on rocky slopes. The leaves are browsed by Impala, and Kudu. Cattle eating the young pods are likely to get albiziosis, a disease that causes convulsions and then death from heart attack.

Medicinal uses include a decoction of the bark to treat coughs.
